AION2 Templar guide: shield tanking, responsibility, and difficulty
Weapon, blocking, and protection identity are official facts. Group responsibility, combat loop, and difficulty are KINA editorial assessments. The page does not claim every activity requires a Templar.
KINA editorial difficulty
Templar
Not an official rating, power score, or tier list- Official weapon
- Longsword and shield
- Official role
- A front-line tank that blocks attacks and protects allies.
Execution may not be the busiest, but positioning, protection timing, and primary tank responsibility create a high group-play mastery burden.
Official fact: weapon and class role
NC's official Guidebook presents Templar with a longsword and shield as a front-line tank that blocks attacks and protects allies.
The global teaser currently lists Templar, and NC's 2025 core-content release calls it the core tanking role. That does not publish a fixed party composition for every activity.
Editorial interpretation: a practice-ready combat loop
An editorial practice loop is: establish position between threat and party, maintain a readable front, notice threat movement, and redirect protection when an ally comes under pressure.
The main burden is not maximum input count but keeping position and responsibility clear with incomplete information. Live threat, block, and protection rules remain controlled by the game text.
Editorial interpretation: PvE, PvP, and RvR contexts
These practice contexts are editorial deductions from the official role profile, not NC playstyle rankings or win-rate claims.
- PvE:Keep enemy facing, hazard space, and party position readable before handling additional targets.
- PvP:Protect allies and limit an enemy advance before defaulting to a chase.
- RvR:Create a recognizable front with the core group and avoid losing back-line support.
Editorial difficulty assessment—not power or tier
KINA rubric v1 rates onboarding at 3/5 and mastery at 5/5. One means a lower learning burden; five means more simultaneous execution, information, or responsibility.
Input density is not the only burden. Position, threat reading, and mistakes directly affecting allies drive the high mastery and responsibility scores.
The rating does not make Templar stronger than another class or mandatory for every group.
The scores do not compare damage, win rate, class value, gear investment, or party demand and cannot establish a best, worst, or tier.
Beginner practice order
Practise the relative position of enemy, tank, and party before reacting to unexpected targets.
- 01
Build a safe baseline
Maintain the relative position of enemy, self, and party in a low-pressure context.
- 02
Add one burden at a time
Add one extra threat at a time and rebuild the front after it moves.
- 03
Recheck the current build
Record live tank rules, party requirements, and recovery behavior for the current activity.
Common mistakes and corrections
These are editorial practice reminders and do not assume any unverified skill, cooldown, or coefficient.
- Watching only personal survival; keep checking whether the party can still use the front you created.
- Leaving the protected area to chase; verify whether the movement exposes the party.
- Turning an official tank role into a fixed dungeon rule; attach region, build, and live party requirements.
