Downloads, updates, and global regions
Steam manages installation and updates through the Steam client; PURPLE uses NC’s PURPLE launcher. The announced global service regions are North America, South America, Europe, and Japan, with ten interface languages. A launcher does not automatically select the best server region.
Neither platform has published the final download size, preload schedule, or launch-day patch. Steam currently requires 100 GB of available storage and recommends an SSD, but 100 GB is a storage requirement—not a confirmed compressed download size.
Accounts, friends, and shared servers
NC explicitly says Steam and PURPLE players connect to the same servers and can meet in the same world. Cross-world dungeons, friends, and server rules follow the regional world structure rather than the launcher brand.
The checked sources do not fully explain Steam-to-NC account linking, unlinking, whether one person can expose the same character data in both launchers, or a future launcher migration. Mark those fields unconfirmed instead of copying a login flow from another NC game.
How do Founder’s Packs and Early Access affect the choice?
A Founder’s Pack bought on Steam works through Steam; a PURPLE purchase works through PURPLE. The five-day Early Access entitlement follows the purchase platform. Shared servers do not make products cross-platform.
PURPLE has announced paid edition-upgrade products, while Steam has not announced an equivalent route. Steam buyers should select a tier before checkout. All tiers still grant the same five days; neither platform nor edition adds more access time.
What should you check for payments, regional pricing, and refunds?
Steam shows local currency, payment methods, and Steam refund terms. PURPLE uses the NC storefront for regional availability, currency, and terms. Prices can vary by region, tax, platform, and date, so one country’s price is not a universal price.
